Key Deadlines – Government Grants

With the election of a new Coalition Government, and the appointment of Ian Macfarlane as the Industry Minister, we are eagerly awaiting of new government grant programs that will be on offer to support Australian businesses.

In the meantime, please be aware of the following Government Grant deadlines that may affect your clients:

October 31, 2013

Submissions of R&D Tax Incentive application to AusIndustry for eligible companies with a substitute financial year ending December 31, 2012.

December 2,  2013

Submission of the EMDG application to AusTrade for the period covering financial year ending June 30, 2013.

January 31, 2014

Submissions of R&D Tax Concession application to AusIndustry for companies with a substitute financial year ending March 30, 2013.

April 30, 2014

Submissions of R&D Tax Incentive application to AusIndustry for companies with a financial year ending June 30, 2013.

Export Market Development Grant (EMDG) – December 2, 2013

Eligible Australian exporters are able to claim up to 50% of their costs associated with export marketing activities.  To access the scheme, businesses need to have spent at least $20,000 in the claim year on eligible export marketing activities.  First time applicants can claim the expenditure incurred over the past two years on these activities.

R&D Tax Incentive –  October 31, 2012

Eligible companies with substitute financial year ending December 31, 2012 are able to apply for the R&D Tax Incentives, including the  45% Refundable Tax Offset and 40% Non-refundable Tax Offset.  To access the Incentive, eligible entities need to have spent at least $20,000 in the claim year on eligible Research and Development activities during the financial year.
