Pacific Alliance Free Trade Agreement
Negotiations between Australia and the Pacific Alliance (made up of Chile, Columbia, Mexico and Peru) began on 30 June. The Pacific Alliance has, over the last decade, become a fast growing economy with a GDP worth over 1.8 trillion USD.
A Pacific Alliance FTA will allow Australian businesses to access opportunities that arise from this rapidly growing market. The Australian Government is striving for a comprehensive agreement providing better goods market access including agricultural products, aluminium products, mining equipment, pharmaceuticals and paper. It will address existing tariff barriers and customs procedures ensuring that goods trad with the Pacific Alliance operates as smoothly as possible.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is inviting submissions from stakeholders to express their views on opportunities and impacts of an FTA – more information can be found here.
